World Cup Predictions by Groups

The 2022 World Cup Qatar schedule is out, and the teams have been divided into different groups. There are 32 teams across eight groups. Here is what they are.

World Cup Predictions

Group A: Qatar, Ecuador, Senegal, Netherlands

This group seems like the easiest group to predict because there are just two highly ranked teams according to rankings. Qatar ranks 51st on the rankings list and has never qualified for the World Cup except in this edition, where they qualify as hosts.

On the other hand, Ecuador is 40th in the rankings and has qualified for the World Cup just three times in the past. Senegal is ranked 20th, and they are the current Africa Cup of Nations Champions with many star players in the squad.

The Netherlands are 10th and were runner ups and second runner ups in the 2010 and 2014 editions of the World Cup, respectively. We predict that Senegal and the Netherlands will advance from the group stage.

Group B: England, Iran, United States, Wales

This group seems easy to predict, but there is the possibility of an upset. England won the World Cup in 1966 on home soil but has not found that form since then. They would hope to have another go at the trophy that has continually eluded them.

Iran has a history of famous goal scorers, but since the current team cannot really replicate that, there is not so much hope for them in the competition.

The US has never won the World Cup and will even find it hard to progress past the Round of 16. They will hope to at least progress to the Round of 16 from this tough group. The fourth member of this group is Wales.

Group C: Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Poland

Argentina will most likely find it easy to get out of this group and progress to compete with teams that match their strength. Saudi Arabia has been to the World Cup only five times, and their highest progression has been to the Round of 16. Hopefully, they can produce a miracle this time.

Mexico and Poland are the teams with the prospect to join Argentina and advance to the knockout round. So, our predictions for Group C are Argentina and that either Mexico or Poland will progress to the Round of 16.

Group D France, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia

France were the last winners of the World Cup, winning over Croatia, 4–2. And while they are favourites going into the tournament, there is the winner’s curse. This was coined after Spain and Germany crashed out of the group stage after winning the previous edition of the World Cup in 2014 and 2018, respectively.

Denmark is ranked 11th in the world and has many star players in the most important positions. Tunisia doesn’t pose so much of a threat and would hope not to crash out before the quarter-finals, which has been a ceiling for African teams. The fourth team is Australia which might not impose the threat on France either. However, the history tought us that everything can happen in football.

Group E: Spain, Costa Rica, Germany, Japan

The other two teams in this group don’t pose trouble for Spain and Germany, the winners of the World Cup in 2010 and 2014, respectively. These two teams will be looking to go past the group stage and land in the finals, hopefully winning the World Cup.

Even though Japan has never progressed beyond the Round of 16, they have qualified for the past six World Cups. They will be hoping to cause an upset at this edition. The final team to join this group was Costa Rica which overcame New Zealand. But for the two teams, we believe that they all stand equal chances of advancing.

Group F: Belgium, Canada, Morocco, Croatia

Barring any major upsets, this is an easy group to predict. Belgium has been the highest-ranked team from 2018 to 2021, having occupied the first position briefly in 2015. One of the only teams to reach that position without winning a major trophy. With a star-studded team that was the 3rd runner at the 2018 World Cup, they would be hoping to gain the ultimate glory this year.

This is just the second World Cup the Canadian national team is qualifying for after crashing out of the first in 1986 at the group stage. They have a few star players, but will this be enough for an upset?

Morroco and Croatia are the teams to compete for the second team leaving the group with Croatia having the upper hand. The Croatian team were the first runners-up in the 2018 World Cup after losing 4–2 in the final to France. Our predictions for this group favour Belgium and Croatia.

Group G: Brazil, Serbia, Switzerland, Cameroon

This is also one of the toughest groups in this World Cup edition. The Brazilan team are 1st in the world rankings and World Cup royalty, even though they won their last World Cup in 2002. But there is another golden generation of stars who would like to make their mark.

The Serbian team are ranked 25th and has a history of qualifying for the World Cup almost every year. Also, they have finished in 4th place two times, in 1930 and 1962. Switzerland is ranked 14th and has progressed to the Round of 16 for the past four years except in 2010.

Cameroon is ranked 37th in the World and is hungry for World Cup success, too. They are a part of the African teams hoping to get past the group stage, Round of 16, quarter-finals and at least to the semi-finals. This would break the quarter-final ceiling that African teams have always crashed out from. Our predictions of teams that can proceed to the Round of 16 are Brazil and Switzerland.

Group H: Portugal, Ghana, Uruguay, South Korea

This is the group of death at the World Cup this year. Every team here are tough. Let’s start with the group favourites, Portugal. The team ranks 8th in the World Rankings and have many stars playing in every position. They also have their talismanic captain and five-time Ballon D’or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo, looking to make this edition of the World Cup the year he finally wins the trophy.

Then Ghana also has a team eager for World Cup glory even though they are 60th when it comes to rankings and one of the lowest-ranked teams in the tournament. Uruguay are World Cup royalty as they won the first and third editions of the World Cup.

For this edition of the World Cup, the Uruguayan squad consists of two deadly strikers, Luis Suarez and Edison Cavani, with 122 international goals. This is in addition to a squad full of star players in several positions.

The South Korea team were in 4th place in the 2002 World Cup and has always caused a major upset in World Cups and will do all possible to advance to the knockout stages. We predict that Portugal will surely advance to the Round of 16. The other three teams have equal chances.

World Cup Quarter-Finals Prediction

Our World Cup quarter-finals team predictions include Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Spain, France, Belgium, England, and Portugal. Other teams that could get to this stage include Senegal and the Netherlands.

World Cup Semi-Finals Predictions

Brazil, Argentina, France, and Belgium are our World Cup predictions for the semi-finalists. These would be two action-packed semis, in our opinion.

World Cup 2022 Final Predictions

Brazil has the highest chance to become the winner of the 2022 World Cup. This should come as no surprise, keeping in mind the star power of the Seleção.

World Cup Betting Tips

Here are some world cup betting tips to consider when betting on the World Cup.

Check H2H records.

To get the correct World Cup predictions, you must consider the H2H standings of the teams playing. This helps to predict the team that always have the upper hand as the team mentality is very important.

Consider the form of the team.

In addition to the H2H standings, the team’s current form determines if there is going to be an upset or not. The truth is that every team that make it to the World Cup are very strong and capable of winning. But some teams have better coaches or are just lucky that injuries don’t rule out their star players. Combining information from H2H records and the teams’ form, you have a better outlook of how games might play out.

Bet with the top bookmakers.

One of the most important World Cup 2022 tips for betting is to bet with the top bookmakers. They offer interesting welcome bonuses that you can pursue and collect after meeting the terms. And in addition to that, these bookmakers offer several ways to bet on the games. But that is not all; they also offer in-play betting and some form of live streaming, so you can watch and bet simultaneously.

Avoid upsets.

To make the correct predictions, always look out for smaller teams that are famous for causing upsets. The group stages are where the most upsets happen, so you might want to start betting in the Round of 16 matches. Most teams focus on this, as their chance to get to glory has increased.

CAF Predictions

African teams have not been lucky at World Cup competitions, only getting to the quarter-finals three times. Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002, and Ghana in 2010. However, the Senegalese team seem determined to end that bad luck in this edition.

They are joined by Ghana, Cameroon, Tunisia, and Morocco. Cameroon is another team we believe that has the squad quality to progress beyond the quarter-finals.

Top Scorer Predictions

Karim Benzema is in great form and has been scoring immensely in the 2021/2022 season leading to the World Cup. So, he is a strong contender for the Golden Boot.

His teammate Kylian Mbappe also has a lot of goals building up to the World Cup. Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi will hope to win the Golden Boot as this is probably their last World Cup competition.
